Computer Museum is a private initiative, we are not backed up by any institutions or companies. And we get no payment for our work. To keep the Museum open all year round for all audiences and constantly maintain, repair and study the collection, we have to pay for the room and any other expenses that come along the way. If we have insufficient resources, we cannot afford even the basic stuff.
How can you help?
There are three ways to do it, and the first one is by making a donation to the Museum bank account.
Bank details:
Beneficiary: Arvutimuuseum MTÜ
Account number/IBAN: EE872200221063355393
SWEDBANK BIC/SWIFT: HABAEE2X
Description: Annetus or Donation
Another way to help us is to buy something from our shop “640KB” – our goods are available in the Museum and also online – https://www.etsy.com/shop/640kbytes
Any donation or purchase you make will help us out with necessary payments, and that means we can spend time on improving the Museum in all ways, making it comfortable and attractive for guests and safe for the collection – instead of thinking how to make ends meet.
New items for the collection
A good collection is the base of any museum including ours. Computer Museum has a collection that is well known for its diversity and balanced choice of items. How we did it? It took us 20 years of hard work, education, luck and careful, step by step approach 🙂 Collecting something systematicaly is really interesting and we are always ready to tell you everything about it.
The Museum has a certain collecting strategy. We don’t buy new items, but will gladly take them if the item is in good condition and we need it. You can take part in forming and developing our collection by donating your old PC, portable, PDA or computer components.
If your item gets to be exhibited, your name will be featured on the information sheet and on the website.
Please note that the Museum has no goal to collect every computer in the world. Quantity is not the point 🙂
If you have old tech and a wish to donate it:
– please read the lists below to see if your item is relevant,
– send an email with item photos and description to info@arvutimuuseum.ee
Don’t forget to tell its story, because stories are important just as the device itself 🙂
If you wish to donate an object, picture and description are mandatory. We do not accept drop-offs or any items without prior approval.
Objects we might accept:
Devices that are complete/in good condition and working,
Rare devices that were produced in small batches, did not get to market or simply unusual for our region,
Software kits – complete and working,
Data storage: HDDs up to 500-800MB, punched cards and tapes, other rare storage devices,
Soviet computers and other devices,
Magnetic core memory and other rare memory types.
Other notable and potentially interesting computer-related vintage things.
We DO NOT accept:
Items in poor condition: incomplete, damaged, broken, destroyed or dirty beyond cleaning,
Mass market items, common and “noname” computers, models we already have,
Items that do not work anymore – monitors, power supplies, keyboards, and more generally – tech that does not work. Exclusions only for really rare stuff.
Incomplete or not working software kits.
